Artemis is back home nearly two years after he went missing during the 2018 California wildfires.

Lindsy Metz thought her beloved eight-year-old cat didn’t survive the raging fires near her Magalia home on Nov. 8, 2018.

She had 30 minutes to grab her children, some important belongings and her pets before escaping the quick-moving inferno, but Artemis had other ideas.

“He was right there by the door and I went to go get him, and I ran up on him too quick, and he bolted,” Metz told Redding TV station KRCR.

The fires destroyed her home and she thought Artemis had perished.

“It was devastating,” Metz said.

Nearly two years later, on Sept. 18, Metz noticed what seemed to be Artemis on a friend’s Facebook page.

After determining telltale signs it actually was the missing feline, Artemis finally returned to the Metz family.

“Oh yeah, a piece of my heart is back where it belonged,” Metz said. “I definitely felt like I had a huge hole in not knowing, in not having closure if he was alive or if he was gone.”
