The lucky winner of 200 million euros, after a EuroMillions draw in 2020, has decided to donate almost all of his winnings for the protection of the environment. “I passed on most of my gain and will gradually donate almost all of it” to his Anyama foundation, he told the Parisian in an article published this Wednesday, April 6.

Created in 2021, the foundation owes its name to an Ivorian city where the man – who wishes to remain anonymous – spent a few years of his life. To explain his decision, he says that “during my life […] witnessed, in Côte d’Ivoire, the incessant passage of trucks loaded with cut trees in the forests of Burkina Faso, formerly Upper Volta”. “This ballet of trucks marked me a lot, outraged me,” he added.

“The priority today is to save the planet”

“What matters are the actions supported by Anyama and the positive impact they generate for everyone,” he insisted to the daily. For the winner, “happy” to devote himself to the protection of the environment, “the priority today is to save the planet or rather to ensure that humans, the living, can continue to be the hosts of our beautiful Earth”.

“We must act, it is an absolute emergency”, he continues so that the planet does not become “unlivable”. French forests could be the first to benefit from Anyama’s actions.

Even though he’s going to donate almost all of his winnings, the man hasn’t forgotten to treat himself. His life is “more comfortable” now. “I made some changes, including work in my house and the acquisition of a second home,” he shared in particular. He also indicated that his immediate family was aware that he had become a millionaire.

“I couldn’t believe it, he recalled, referring to the results of the Euromillions draw. I got goosebumps and thought to myself: How could that be me? Sometimes, even today, I feel like I’m dreaming.”
